Vedra Augenstein, MD, FACS

Dr. Vedra Augenstein attended medical school and performed her surgical residency at the University of Louisville. Following this, she performed a Laparoscopic and GI Surgical Fellowship at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. She began her surgical practice in Austin, Texas but was recruited back the Carolinas Medical Center as a surgical attending to perform foregut surgery and abdominal wall reconstruction.

She is currently an Associate Professor of Surgery, and her research interests include patient optimization for surgery, hernia and esophageal related topics as well as resident and fellow education. She is currently the chair of the education committee for America Hernia Society and the co-chair of the education committee for SAGES. Over the last 8 years her scientific investigation has earned the Association for Academic Surgery, Southeastern Surgical Congress, the European Hernia Society Research Awards, as well as several SAGES Research Awards.
